An Ordinance Establishing a Temporary Suspension of Certain Signage Regulations and Fees in Connection with the Weber Road/I-55 Interchange Project

WHEREAS, the Village of Romeoville, (hereinafter "Village"), has the authority to adopt ordinances pertaining to the public health, safety and welfare regulating private and public property; and
WHEREAS, in conformance with said authority, the Village has from time to time adopted provisions of Chapter 159 of its Code of Ordinances pertaining to the regulation of signage within the Village and the fees to be imposed in connection with various sign permit applications and approvals; and
WHEREAS, the Village has been advised of the recent commencement of construction activity for the new Weber Road/I-55 Interchange; and
WHEREAS, the interchange construction project will extend for a period of multiple years, and will require the removal and relocation of a significant number of existing signs presently owned and used within the Weber Road corridor; and
WHEREAS, to assist the businesses and property owners who have been or will be required to relocate or remove existing signage in connection with the interchange construction project, the Village has determined that it is appropriate to temporarily suspend application/permit fees for temporary sign permits and to temporarily suspend the time limits otherwise applicable to the placement and use of temporary signage, subject to the conditions hereinafter set forth; and
WHEREAS, to further assist the businesses and property owners who have been or will be required to relocate or remove existing signage in connection with the interchange construction project, the Village has additionally determined that it is appropriate to temporarily suspend the otherwise applicable prohibition on the placement of temporary signage on an offsite property other than the property to which the signage pertains, subject to the conditions hereinafter set forth.
