An Ordinance Amending Chapter 37 of the Village Code of Ordinances (Employee Benefits and Policies)

WHEREAS, it is the responsibility of the Corporate Authorities to periodically review the compensation and benefits paid to elected officials within the Village of Romeoville to ensure that the same are commensurate with the duties and responsibilities undertaken by such officials; and

WHEREAS, the most recent such review indicates that certain revisions to Chapter 37 of the Village Code of Ordinances are necessary in order to fairly adjust the compensation and benefits paid to elected officials within the Village of Romeoville; and


NOW THEREFORE BE IT ORDAINED BY THE PRESIDENT AND BOARD OF TRUSTEES FOR THE VILLAGE OF ROMEOVILLE, WILL COUNTY, ILLINOIS; THAT:

SECTION 1: RECITALS. The foregoing recitals are hereby incorporated into this Ordinance as if fully set forth herein.

SECTION 2: AMENDMENT TO CHAPTER 37 OF THE VILLAGE CODE OF ORDINANCES. Those provisions of all heretofore adopted Village Ordinances codified as and for Chapter 37 of the Village Code of Ordinances are hereby amended by the addition of the following text, to be codified as and for a new Section 37.87 of the Village Code of Ordinances.
37.87 ELECTED OFFICALS' HEALTH INSURANCE BENEFITS
From and after the commencement of the terms of office of all Village elected officials sworn into office after the April, 2019 elections, and notwithstanding any other provision of this Code or of any Village policy, all such elected officials shall thereafter only be eligible to receive Village employee health insurance benefits under the HMO coverage option to the exclusion of any other form of health insurance coverage or benefits otherwise available to any Village employees, provided, however, that as a continuing condition of their eligibility to receive such coverage, all such elected officials shall be expected to document that they devote not less than 1,000 hours each year ...
