A Resolution Authorizing the signing of the Cities Open Internet Pledge

Whereas, Net Neutrality is essential to everyone’s rights to connect and communicate online, and;
Whereas, the Federal Communications Commission recently voted to take away Net Neutrality protections which allows phone and cable companies to block, throttle and otherwise interfere with our access to sites and services online; and
Whereas, Municipalities have come to rely on the internet as an open medium to provide information to their residents; and
Whereas, this unpopular decision has sparked a national movement to defend the open internet and restore Net Neutrality safeguards, and
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE PRESIDENT AND BOARD OF TRUSTEES FOR THE VILLAGE OF ROMEOVILLE, WILL COUNTY, ILLINOIS, AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1: The Mayor or his designee shall be authorized to sign the Cities Open Internet Pledge
.
Section 2: The Resolution shall be in full force and effect from and after its passage, approval, and publication in pamphlet form, as provided by law.
Section 3: RECITALS: The foregoing recitals are hereby incorporated into this Resolution as if fully set forth herein.
