An Ordinance Establishing Maximum Tax Rates for The Village of Romeoville and Authorizing the Village Manager and Finance Director to Make the Appropriate Adjustments and Abatements to the 2023 Tax Levy for the Village of Romeoville, Will County, Illinois

WHEREAS, the Village of Romeoville has a population of more than 25,000 persons and is, therefore, a home rule unit under subsection (a) of Section 6 of Article VII of the Illinois Constitution of 1970; and

 

WHEREAS, subject to said Section, a home rule unit may exercise any power and perform any function pertaining to its government and affairs for the protection of the public health, safety, moral and welfare; and

 

WHEREAS, December 6, 2023 the Village of Romeoville adopted Ordinance No. 23-1873 which established the tax levy for the Village of Romeoville; and

 

WHEREAS, it is the desire and intention of the Village President and Village Board that the Village of Romeoville tax levy will generate a maximum tax rate not to exceed 1.030 per one hundred dollars of equalized assessed value; and

 

WHEREAS, it is the desire and intention of the Village President and Village Board that the Village of Romeoville Fire tax levy will generate a maximum tax rate not to exceed .2200 per one hundred dollars of equalized assessed value; and

 

WHEREAS, the Village President and Village Board hereby authorize the County Clerk of Will County, at the direction of the Village Manager and Finance Director, to make the appropriate adjustments and abatements in the 2023 tax levy for the Village of Romeoville.

 

BE IT ORDAINED BY THE PRESIDENT AND THE VILLAGE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE VILLAGE OF ROMEOVILLE, WILL COUNTY, ILLINOIS:

 

Section 1:                     The Village President and Village Board hereby determine and declare that the Village of Romeoville Maximum Tax Rate not to exceed 1.0300 per one hundred dollars of equalized assessed value.

 

Section 2:                     The Village President and Village Board hereby determine and declare that the Village of Romeoville Fire Maximum Tax Rate not to exceed .2200 per one hundred dollars of equalized assessed value. 

 

 

Section 3:                     If the Village Manager reasonably determines that the tax rate to be extended for the 2023 levy year will exceed the Village of Romeoville Maximum Tax Rate, the Village Manager is hereby authorized and directed to issue an order to the Will County Clerk abating the Village of Romeoville Tax Levy in an amount necessary to adjust and abate the extended Village of Romeoville Tax Rate to produce a rate equal to or below the Village of Romeoville Maximum Tax Rate of 1.0300 per one hundred dollars of equalized assessed value.  The Village Manager may direct the Finance Director to make the rate determination and to issue the abatement order authorized by this Ordinance. 

 

Section 4:                     If  the Village Manager reasonably determines that the tax rate to be extended for the 2023 levy year will exceed the Village of Romeoville Fire Maximum Tax Rate, the Village Manager is hereby authorized and directed to issue an order to the Will County Clerk abating the Village of Romeoville Fire Tax Levy in an amount necessary to adjust and abate the extended Village of Romeoville Fire Tax Rate to produce a rate equal to or below the Village of Romeoville Fire Maximum Tax Rate of .2200 per one hundred dollars of equalized assessed value.  The Village Manager may direct the Finance Director to make the rate determination and to issue the abatement order authorized by this Ordinance.

 

Section 5:                     That this Ordinance be in full force and effect from and after its passage, approval, recording, and publication as provided by law.

 

That the Village Clerk is hereby directed to file with the County Clerk of Will County, Illinois, a certified copy of this Ordinance in conformity with the Statues of the State of Illinois as therefore provided.
