An Ordinance Amending Chapter 122.41(A), Tax, of the Village Code of Ordinances

body

                     WHEREAS, the Village of Romeoville has heretofore adopted certain ordinances now codified as and for Chapter 122.41 et seq. of the Village Code of Ordinances that levy and impose a tax upon the rent charged for the privilege and use of renting a hotel or motel room within the village for each 24-hour period or any portion thereof for which a daily room charge is made; and

                     WHEREAS, the Village is an Illinois home rule unit of government within the meaning of the Section 6(a) of Article VII of the Constitution of the State of Illinois, and is authorized pursuant thereto to exercise any power and perform any function pertaining to its government and affairs, including the power to tax; and

                     WHEREAS, the Corporate Authorities of the Village of Romeoville find that persons occupying hotel rooms within the Village for thirty (30) days or more are more likely to require additional amounts of Village services as compared to persons staying for twenty eight (28) or less days, thereby imposing additional costs generally upon the Village and its residents;

                     WHEREAS, the Corporate Authorities of the Village of Romeoville find that it is in the best interests of the Village to amend the hotel and motel room tax rate presently set forth in Chapter 122.41 of the Village Code of Ordinances as hereinabove contemplated.
